Planning a trip to Ilha Grande? There’s one new thing to add to your checklist. Since 1 June 2026, the town of Angra dos Reis charges visitors a Sustainable Tourism Fee, known locally as the TTS (Taxa de Turismo Sustentável). The Ilha Grande tourist fee is R$ 50 per person when you take the boat from Conceição de Jacareí. You pay it online before you board the boat, and you may be asked to show your voucher.

The only catch is that the payment website is in Portuguese. Don’t worry: below is a simple, field-by-field English guide, so you can pay in about five minutes from your phone.

Why does Ilha Grande charge a tourist fee?

Ilha Grande is one of Brazil’s most loved natural treasures. It has no cars, it’s covered in protected Atlantic Rainforest, and it’s ringed by beaches like Lopes Mendes, Aventureiro and the Lagoa Azul. Millions of visitors put pressure on its trails, water and rubbish collection. The Sustainable Tourism Fee, created by the Angra dos Reis municipality, helps fund the protection and upkeep of the islands and the tourist infrastructure that visitors use. Think of it like the tourist taxes in Fernando de Noronha, Bonito or Jericoacoara.

Common questions about the Ilha Grande TTS

Do I need to pay the Ilha Grande tourist fee before I arrive?

Yes. Pay online before you board the boat to the island. Doing it the day before your trip, or even the morning you travel, is ideal. You’ll get your voucher straight away.

How much is the Ilha Grande tourist tax in 2026 and 2027?

The fee shown on the official website is R$ 50 per person when boarding at Conceição de Jacareí (October 2026). The amount can change (including in 2027), and the exact price always appears in the basket before you pay.

I don’t have a CPF. Can I still pay?

Yes. Tick “Não possuo CPF” and enter your passport number in the “Documento” field instead. That’s how most international visitors pay.

Do children and seniors have to pay?

No. Children up to 12, people aged 60 and over and people with disabilities are exempt. They still need a voucher, so fill in their details and the system issues a free one.

Does one voucher cover my whole family or group?

No. Each voucher is individual and can’t be transferred, so every traveller needs their own. Groups can use the “Emitir TTS em Lote” (bulk) option.

What boarding point do I choose if I travel with Green Toad Bus?

Choose Conceição (Conceição de Jacareí). That’s where our transfer meets the boat to Abraão, Ilha Grande’s main village.

Can I pay with a foreign credit card?

Yes, choose Credit Card on the payment page. Pix is a Brazilian instant payment system and usually needs a Brazilian bank account.

What if I don’t pay in advance?

There are payment totems in some places on the mainland and on Ilha Grande, but don’t count on them. Visitors found without a valid voucher can be fined double the fee, so paying online beforehand is the safest and fastest option.
