Getting from the Rio International Airport (GIG) to Ilha Grande
From the International (GIG) airport, there are 3 regular departure times per day from a meeting point at the airport
You are required to be at a meeting point in terminal 2 of the GIG airport by the appointed time. A van will pass by to collect you on its way to Ilha Grande. The van will arrive with passengers who boarded in Rio city, and therefore cannot wait for you if your flight is delayed.
Please be aware that if there is any delay on your end causing you to miss the pick up, you will be provided with contact details to see if there is availability on a later transfer. If there is no availability, then the transfer will be considered a ‘no show’ without refund, and you must contact your airline or travel insurance to request any compensation due to a late arrival.
From the airport, you drive 2 hours from Rio to the town of Conceicao de Jacareí where you board an included speed boat to the Abraao pier on Ilha Grande. The boat takes approximately 20 minutes.
Shuttle Van Airport Schedule
These are recommended timings only, and do not reflect the real possibility of delayed flight arrivals, or overcrowding at passport control.
Departure 1
- Domestic Flights: For arrivals until 6:00 AM
- International Flights: For arrivals until 4:30 AM
- Van Timing: Passes between 5:45 AM and 7:15 AM
Departure 2
- Domestic Flights: For arrivals until 9:00 AM
- International Flights: For arrivals until 8:00 AM
- Van Timing: Passes between 8:45 AM and 10:15 AM
Departure 3
- Domestic Flights: For arrivals until 12:15 PM
- International Flights: For arrivals until 11:30 AM
- Van Timing: Passes between 12:45 PM and 2:45 PM
Getting from the Santos Dumont Airport to Ilha Grande
From the SDU airport you have three chances to catch a ride to Ilha Grande per day . Because this airport is located close to downtown Rio, pickups can coincide with the regular city transfers.
The Santos Dumont (SDU) meeting point is in the Departure terminal (not the terminal where you land, it is the terminal where people make their check-in for flights). You will need to wait by the information desk which is called INFRAERO. It is located at the main entrance of the departure terminal.
Please note that we are not responsible for any missed flights or flight delays, and if the van passes and cannot locate you, it will continue without you because the other passengers need to make the scheduled boat departure. Any compensation for missed departures must be sought from the airline or your travel insurance.
It is also possible to reserve the return transfer at the same time. On the return leg, you can choose to be dropped back at either the international airport, or at your accommodation in Rio city.
Getting From Ilha Grande to either of the Rio de Janeiro Airports
If you are just wanting to book a transfer from Ilha Grande to the GIG International airport, or to Santos Dumont, then do so by reserving any of the regular departures we have leaving from the Abraao pier everyday.
There are 3 departures per day for you to choose which is best for your check in time. Remember to give yourself plenty of time in case of delays caused by bad weather or road conditions.
You will be required to check-in at the pier 20 minutes before your departure, and the journey to the airports takes between 3 to 4 hours.
