This is not just a tour, it is also your transport between Cusco and Puno (and vice versa), and what an awesome way to break-up the journey!
Enjoy the wonders of south Peru while travelling the famous "Route of the Sun". Less then 10 hours of comfortable travel on a tourist-class bus, toilet on board, hostess service (cold and hot drinks), and experienced bus driver. The trip either leaves from Puno and travels in the direction of Cusco, or from Cusco arriving to Puno, almost 400 Km between the cities. Daily departures at 7h30, and with guided tours in English of archeological centers along the way.
The following description details the trip from Puno, traveling in the direction of Cusco: your first stop is to visit the little village of PUKARA, which dates from the first Southern Peruvian Inca civilization (1600 BC). It constitutes the most important Ceremonial Center of the Altiplano, characterized by a series of terraces that resemble pyramids. In the museum it is possible to discover the origin of the Pucara culture through Lito sculptures and ceramics.
After a short bus ride it is time to stop again, at 4335m of altitude, to take in the spectacular view of the beautiful landscape, snow covered Andian peaks and llamas at the Rayas Pass.
Back on the bus as you head to the little town of Siciani to taste the delicious Peruvian buffet, also included!
At about 14h00 the bus arrives to Raqchi and the Temple of the God Wiracocha. This archeological complex consists of several different areas designed for specific functions: temples, living quarters, storehouses, fairground and baths. After the guided tour, there is some free time to visit the typical handcrafts market and buy some cheap souvenirs for the people back home!
The last stop before arriving to Cusco is in Handahuailillas, a small welcoming colonial town founded by the Spanish because of the areas fantastic climate and fertile land. In the main square, decorated with palm trees and coral trees, we discover the colonial church, also known as the 'Sistine Chapel' of America for its splendid works of art.
Back on the bus, direction Cusco, the guide will take the time to explain many aspects about the Peruvian culture (including typical foods of the Cusco Region) and will tell you the legend of the foundation of the Inca Civilization.
By 17h00 you are in Cusco, ready to enjoy the Inca Center of the World! The tour runs in the opposite direction as well from Cusco.
Not included is your entrances to Pukara, Raqchi & Handahuaillas which total S/.40 ($15 USD), payable at the entrances. It is not obligatory to enter the sites!
