Note - It is not possible to pre-book buses between Tacna and Arica. We do not include this ticket and you will need to contract a Coletivo Taxi directly at the International Terminal in Tacna which is just across the road from the domestic terminal you will be arriving to. This is a fairly simple and cheap process and we provide you with instructions on how to do it.

Sector 1 Arequipa

Recommended Minimum Nights: 3
Transport to Next Sector: Local Bus
Recommended Activities: Colca Canyon Overnight Trip, Colca Canyon 2 or 3 day treks

Arequipa, the capital of southern Peru, features a beautiful white cathedral along with other grand buildings made from white volcanic siltstone, the reason why Arequipa is known as the White City. Visit the museum which houses Juanita the Ice maiden found frozen and preserved on top of a nearby volcano, and explore the walled convent of Santa Catalina, Latin-colonial architecture at its best which has hosted many years of secrets before the public were allowed to enter.

Sector 2 Tacna

Recommended Minimum Nights: Most Backpackers just transit directly Arica.
Transport to Next Sector: Unfortunately there is no way to pre-purchase tickets for the Colectivo Taxis (Shared Taxi) which cross the border regularly to Arica. You will need to contract a taxi directly at the International Terminal in Tacna which is just across the road from the domestic terminal you will be arriving to.

There are Colectivo Taxis departing regularly from between 6am and 10pm. The price for a seat in a colectivo is around S/.15 to S/.20 Peruvian Soles (about $5 -$7 USD).

The best part about the colectivos is that the drivers know what you'll need to do as you pass through the Peruvian border stop and then the Chilean, and will help walk you right through everything.

Sector 3 Arica

Arica is a developing seaside resort surrounded by sand dunes, kilometers of seashore, duty-free shopping and lively nightlife. Low crime, nice weather, laid back pace of life are good reasons to spend time around Arica. From here you will also make your included day trip to see inland ruins of ancient cultures, volcanos and the highest mountain lake in the world.

Sector 4 Iquique

Iquique is one of the country's most visited cities. In the past, this was territory belonging to Bolivia, and a major port for the silver mined in Bolivia to travel before shipping off to Spain and to the rest of the world. Nowadays, the cities assets are a mild and dry climate, natural and archaeological treasures and many recreational and sporting activities like surfing and bodyboarding. Iquique is the perfect city where you can enjoy beautiful beaches and sun, a pleasant stop as you journey through the Atacama Desert.
