The Iguazu Backpacker trip is designed for backpackers to experience the best of the Iguazu area within a three night, four day period. You are not bound by this timeframe as it is only our recommendation and you may change the recommended nights at Foz do Iguacu to suite your plans! You may also add-on our recommended hostels and other activities to complement your stay during the reservation process.
This is your arrival day! You will have a transfer waiting for you from either the Foz do Iguau/Cataratas International Airport or the bus terminal. The transfer will take you to your accommodation with-in the Foz do Iguacu city limits. We recommend filling in the rest of your day by resting at our recommended hostels which have pools or heading to the Itaipu dam.
You will be picked-up at your accommodation and have a transfer to the Brazilian side of the Iguazu Falls. Your driver will explain where the entrance to national park is and will set a meeting time for your transfer back to your accommodation (National Park Entrance not included).
The drop off point is also the car park of the Bird Park which is located just outside the National Park entrance. Your driver will provide you with entrance to the park which hosts more than 1000 birds from 150 species, many of them threatened by extinction. You will get close to the many species endemic to the area such as toucans and macaws as they walk freely around you.
Your trip to the Iguazu Falls is not complete without a visit to the Argentine side. Here you will get closer to the falls and walk in a beautiful tropical rainforest where you will find remarkable views of the waterfalls. You will be picked up from your accommodation and transferred to the Argentine Iguazu National Park. A basic English-speaking driver/guide will accompany you to the falls to help you navigate the trails and help with border procedures. You will also visit a location in Argentina where you can see Brazil, Paraguay and Argentina from one point.
Why not add-on the Gran Adventura jet boat ride under the falls, which begins with an 8km jeep ride on the Sendero Yacaratia Trail. Your transport is an open vehicle allowing panoramic views of the jungle. You will be accompanied by a guide who will give you explanations on flora, fauna and local legends. And then its into a powerboat to speed 6km up the river (2km of these are rapids) towards the falls. The ride takes you to Tres Mosqueteros where you will get spectacular views of the falls from below, including the Devil's Throat. Then its up close and personal with the San Martin Falls. Be warned, you will get wet!
They give you a dry-bag to keep your belongings dry, which will easily fit a daypack. Take a change of shirt and shorts, you may even want to wear your swimwear. Even put your shoes and socks in the dry-bag. The boat literally goes under the falls and it is impossible to stay dry, but they will give you plenty of warning to put your camera away in the dry-bag. This truly is a great adventure!
You have about 6 hours in the park and then a transfer back to Brazil and your hostel!
If you have time why not head over to Paraguay for some electronics shopping in the duty free zone or take in the Itaipu dam which is one of the largest hydro-electric dams in the world. Your trip ends with your transfer to your departing flight or bus.
