Cruz Del Sur - Best Buses in Peru
For quality, piece of mind and comfort you cannot look past Cruz del Sur for your bus travel in Peru. There are many bus companies Peru and all offering varying qualities in their services, but the Green Toad Bus prefers to use Cruz del Sur for the vast majority of departures within the country due to its safety record, customer service, and comfortable seats. Cruz del Sur certainly is not the cheapest company we could use for Peru bus travel; but we use them as we find that they are the most reliable for sticking to departure and arrival times, and they believe in offering their clients a first world travel experience. The Cruz del Sur experience usually starts at the terminal because the company have their own terminals in most cities with the lounges in the stations offering a nicer and more secure environment than the communal terminals.
Cruz del Sur is the superior Peruvian bus company in terms of food quality, cleanliness of the onboard bathroom and overall customer service on the bus. The bus is always clean and the attendants also stay awake through-out the night to tend to passengers needs; and importantly, the seats recline almost fully making it easier to get some sleep. Some buses offer WiFi and the use of an onboard computer; the television and sound systems are better than most buses on the continent, and they often have movies with English subtitles. The food served by Cruz Del Sur for dinner and breakfast is quiet good with a vegetarian menu offered. Something unique to the company is they sometimes try to make the long travel times more fun with getting the passengers involved in an onboard bingo game, just remember to fill the entire card, and not just one row!
Bus Between Cusco and Puno
Between Cusco and Puno you will travel the famous "Route of the Sun". Less than 10 hours of comfortable travel on a tourist-class bus, toilet on board, hostess service (cold and hot drinks), and experienced bus driver make this trip a great way to get between these two cities. The trip either leaves from Puno and travels in the direction of Cusco, or from Cusco arriving to Puno, almost 400 Km between the cities. Daily departures at 7h30, and with guided tours in English of archeological centers along the way. Entrances to the Archaeological sites is not included, but a buffet lunch on the way is!
Bus Between Peru and Bolivia
If you are heading to Bolivia from Peru with the Green Toad Bus, you will be travelling between the city of Puno and the Bolivian town of Copacabana. The ride lasts roughly four hours hugging the shores of lake Titicaca and includes a stop at the border for immigration control. The bus company Titicaca Bolivia is not quite the standard of Cruz del Sur but their safety record is high and the short bus ride is quite comfortable. Crossing the actual border usually takes 20 minutes, with your bus attendant helping to make it a hassle-free process, but you will need to leave the bus and follow the instructions of the attendant. Some nationalities such as people from the United States will need to purchase a visa to enter Bolivia and it can be cheaper getting this in advance as they charge up to $135 USD at the border. Regulations for entry to Bolivia often change and you should check whether or not your nationality needs a visa for entry.
